rosacea treatment orlando

Intense pulsed light therapy, also known as IPL, is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that offers a host of benefits. In a single treatment, you can reverse sun damage, turn back the clock and revitalize the complexion. The IPL photofacial is available at Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center, offering our patients another option in skin rejuvenation without incisions, anesthesia or downtime.

What is Pulsed Light?

Intense pulsed light is a procedure that delivers different wavelengths of light energy underneath the skin’s surface without damaging the outer dermal layer or surrounding tissue. The energy targets pigment and vascular lesions, to create smoother, clearer skin. The procedure also stimulates the body’s own production of collagen, which effectively rolls back the clock on the skin by minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Although IPL is primarily used on the face, it can also be used on other sun-exposed areas like the décolleté, neck, back and the backs of the hands.

IPL Treatment Options

The IPL photofacial can address a host of specific skin concerns, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Signs of aging like fine lines
  • Brown spots and freckles
  • Melasma and other discolorations
  • Symptoms of rosacea
  • Broken capillaries and small, visible blood vessels
  • Uneven skin tone

IPL can also be combined with a special topical agent and used as an effective treatment for acne. We also offer this option at Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center.

Fast Procedure, No Downtime

IPL treatments do not require any type of anesthesia and the procedure usually takes an hour or less to complete depending on the size of the treatment area. A special hand piece is passed over the skin, which delivers the light energy below the surface. Multiple passes may be done to produce the best results. Most patients find the procedure to be fairly comfortable, comparing the moment when the light therapy is delivered like a rubber band snap.

After treatment, you will be able to return to your regular activities right away. The treated skin may be slightly red and tender, similar to how it feels with a sunburn. Those side effects should subside within a day or two and will not likely be intense enough to require any type of medication. Makeup can also be used to cover up the side effects so you are comfortable going out in public after your treatment.

Getting Results

Most patients will see positive results after a single IPL treatment. However, a series of treatment sessions is usually needed to achieve the full results you are looking for. We typically recommend 2-4 treatment sessions, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. You will see improvements to the skin after every procedure, however.

Comparing IPL to Other Treatments

The IPL photofacial is a superior treatment for eliminating brown spots and visible veins. This procedure tends to work better than laser skin resurfacing for this purpose with less trauma to the skin. The results are also much better with IPL than with exfoliating treatments like microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Our experienced staff will discuss your concerns and your desired results to determine whether IPL is the best treatment option for you.
