Choosing the right facial rejuvenation procedure can be tough. With the amount of cosmetic procedures available — each claiming to provide the best results — it’s difficult to determine the treatment that is right for you.

Narrowing down your options may be as simple as deciding whether or not you want to undergo surgery. If you determine that surgery is a viable option, then you still have several procedures to consider. The same goes for nonsurgical enhancement, with various treatments available that can restore your skin without incisions or much downtime.

At Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center, we focus on nonsurgical solutions for facial rejuvenation. A treatment that has recently taken the industry by storm is PRP injections — otherwise known as the plasma rich facelift.

What Is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, and it is what’s created as a result of your blood cells being separated from their natural platelets. Your platelets harbor several benefits, a large one being growth factors that help repair injuries inflicted onto your skin. In a higher concentration, platelets can stimulate collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which work to replace the damaged skin cells creating cosmetic imperfections.

When platelets are injected into the skin, they begin working to turn over an acne-ridden, wrinkled, scarred and dull complexion. Over time, as the platelets induce collagen, your skin will appear vibrant and refreshed.

PRP has been around for several decades and was first used in orthopedic medicine, dentistry and reconstructive surgery. With the amount of healing properties that PRP possesses, many physicians began to use the treatment for cosmetic purposes as well.

Why Is It Called the Plasma Rich Facelift?

Although the name of the treatment sounds scary, it is extremely safe and effective. Because PRP injections are derived from your blood, the procedure has acquired a rather theatrical name. Not only are you removing blood from your body and injecting it back into your skin, but also you are obtaining the same pristine skin tone that a fictional plasma rich might possess.

Both men and women benefit from the rejuvenation that the plasma rich facelift provides. The treatment is capable of restoring skin on the face, neck, décolleté and hands. Specifically, PRP injections have proven to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes.

How Does the Treatment Work?

To begin your PRP procedure, blood must be extracted from your body — usually from your arm. Your practitioner will place the blood into a centrifuge, which separates the white and red blood cells from the platelets. The platelets are then injected back into the treatment area using the Eclipse PRP system. Small injections through a very fine needle ensure that the procedure remains minimally invasive with hardly any downtime, as the wounds heal very quickly.

In total, your procedure will last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Although you are receiving several injections, you should experience very little pain, especially with the application of a local anesthetic beforehand.

Over time, the PRP injections begin to enrich the skin, producing a younger-looking and firmer skin texture. Because you are using your body’s own blood to restore your skin’s quality, there is absolutely no risk of an adverse reaction occurring.

Immediately after your plasma rich facelift, you may experience some redness, swelling and slight bruising around the injection site; however, the side effects that occur will dissipate in a couple of days and are not debilitating. Most patients can return to work within a day of receiving treatment.

How Often Should You Receive PRP?

For the best results, your practitioner may recommend that you undergo regular prp facelift procedures. Three treatments over a span of four weeks as well as bi-annual appointments will ensure that your skin receives long-lasting rejuvenation.

It may also be beneficial to maintain volume in your skin with hyaluronic filler treatment or BOTOX Cosmetic for increased enhancement. Although dermal fillers generally target one skin imperfection at a time, they can complement your prp facelift and produce smoother skin overall.
